FAQs

How does Fringe work?

Here at Fringe HQ we act as ‘facilitators’ between you and your venue and undertake promotion of your event to the best of our ability. We are also here to offer any help or advice in choosing a suitable venue, or to answer any questions you may have.

The venue list created by Shaftesbury Fringe is for information only. We have no involvement in these venues and you need to negotiate your arrangements with them directly. Some are free and some charge.

How long should my show be?

Fringe shows normally run for 30 minutes to 1 hour – but there is no ‘normal’ in Fringe! The length of your show depends on your type of performance and any time restrictions that may exist at your chosen venue. You can check this with them directly.

Can I sell tickets to my show?

Our experience is that the most popular shows are free of charge. However you are of course welcome to ‘pass the hat’ around an appreciative audience!

If you do decide to charge an entrance fee, please note that this is your responsibility and you need to ensure that you have somebody to collect money for you on the door. This is not the responsibility of your chosen venue (unless you have arranged this with them) or Fringe HQ.

When is the deadline for registering my show?

We will need to have received your online registration form no later than 31st July 2021.

What information is needed to register?

Please check out the information on How To Register Your Show. Due to possible ongoing coronavirus restrictions, it is even more important this year that you have a suitable performance space and time slot reserved before you register. We cannot accept registrations that do not have a venue and time slot already booked.

How much is the registration fee?

We know that performers have really struggled during lockdown. For this reason, Shaftesbury Fringe is waiving all registration fees (normally £25 per show) this year. However, you should still check with your chosen venue whether they are charging a fee for using their performance space.

Even though there is no registration fee this year, The Shaftesbury Fringe team will still offer as much promotion, marketing and support services as we can. This could include:

– Free listing of your event in our printed flyers.

– Free online listing of your event with image(s) on shaftesburyfringe.co.uk and in our app.

– Free promotion on social media.

– Support from our Fringe Team during the Fringe weekend.

– Assistance and support with all aspects of your Shaftesbury Fringe visit.

What accommodation is available?

Accommodation in Shaftesbury is limited. Please book your accommodation as early as possible. As COVID-19 restrictions could still be in place during summer 2021, you should check carefully the terms and conditions of your chosen accommodation before booking. See Where to Stay.
